The
Waahi-tapu area on Pitt Islands' East coast is a
sacred site to Moriori. The site is strewn with the
remnants of occupation and is an example of the many
areas on the Chathams that need protection. This
particular site may have been one of the earliest
sites of Moriori occupation in the Chathams group.
