The central Pou inside Kopinga Marae.

This pou is adorned with the names of those who were alive in 1835, before the invasion by Ngati Mutunga and Ngati Tama. The names are listed village by village and are a solemn reminder of the impact that this event had on Moriori.

The central Pou is the focal point for this marae and the wooden platform surrounding it is where the orator stands to 'walk and  talk.' The platform is shaped to reflect the shape of the basalt columns, which also are iconic of Rekohu.
