Kaingaroa Farming Text

Hokotehi Moriori Trust owns several farm properties, including, Kaingaroa Farm and Henga and has a guardian role over the large Taia property bought by the Department of Conservation. School groups that stay at Kopinga Marae are able to visit these working properties and depending on the time of year, may even be able to participate in some farm work, or just observe general farm work at close hand.
Kaingaroa farm also has several areas that are better suited to regeneration, rather than development. Your school group could participate in a re-vegetation programme, through planting trees, shrubs or grasses.

Some New Zealand schools have already committed themselves to conservation tours on the Islands this summer, which includes tree planting at select reserves on the islands.

Kaingaroa farm is one of the oldest run-holdings on the islands and produces quality stock.

Pasture development and stock improvement are just some of the areas in which the manager of Kiangaroa Farm specialises in and he also farms other properties on the islands with excellent results.

Come on and book your school camp to Kopinga Marae and call out and see the Kaingaroa Farm in action. Your students might even be able to give a hand in the woolshed, muster stock, or plant trees. In fact just come and see a real farm in action.... it'll be worth it.

Oh! Did we forget to mention that just down the road at Kaingaroa village, there is a really awesome beach and the local club, that sometimes caters lunch for visiting groups. And it is also the site of Broughtons first landing back in 1791?

Come and have a look for yourself.
